Direct Shell — The Fast Sculptor of a Smile

A confident smile has a unique power; it boosts self-confidence, makes a positive impression on others, and gives you a confident appearance. If you are not satisfied with the shape, color or arrangement of your teeth, a direct shell can be the perfect solution that can immediately make a lasting and impressive change. In this blog post we will discover what a direct peel is, how it can help you achieve the perfect smile and what those who choose this procedure can expect.

What is a direct shell?

Direct plating is a minimally invasive dental procedure in which the dentist applies a special composite material directly to the surface of the teeth to improve the aesthetic appearance. This material perfectly imitates natural tooth enamel, giving the final result a completely realistic and natural effect. Direct peels can treat many aesthetic problems, such as gaps between teeth, cracks, discoloration, and minor differences in size.

Unlike E-max peels, this treatment does not always require preparation, so we will not need temporary peels and we can even preserve the health of our enamel. Before starting the treatment, we prepare a Smile Design smile plan, where together with the patient we develop the desired tooth shape, color and final result. From the digitized design, we use a 3D printer to create a wax up model, and then a template that you can try on your teeth using trial shells to anticipate and fall in love with your future smile. If you like the end result, there is nothing left but to do it together! The treatment guarantees a quick, lasting and eye-catching result! Transform your smile without pain and waiting time!

Why choose direct shells?

  • Thanks to the revolutionary procedure, you can achieve the desired result, the smile of your dreams with just one treatment!
  • In most cases, no preparation is required, so you can preserve the integrity and health of the enamel.
  • Special composite material perfectly reproduces the color and texture of tooth enamel.
  • The minimally invasive technique allows direct peels to be easily removed or repaired if necessary.

The creation of direct shells is preceded by a digital smile design process, so you can see and test the final result with the help of test shells before starting the treatments.

Direct shell step by step

Step 1: Consultation and Smile Design

The first step is a personalized consultation, during which the patient's dental condition is assessed in detail. This includes taking X-ray (s), taking studio and oral photos, and digital scanning. This information provides the basis for creating a personalized treatment plan.

Step 2: Genetically Based Smile Design and Smile Test

The dental laboratory uses digital technology to design a personalized smile plan based on the smallest details, which includes all the steps to achieve the perfect result. This can include virtual 3D modeling and computer simulations to help you gain an up-front insight into your future smile. From this model we create a so-called mock-up template and interactively use test shells to illustrate your future smile so that you can anticipate the final result. If you are satisfied with the plan, implementation can follow.

Step 3: Cleaning Your Teeth and Putting on Your Suitcase

As the next step in the procedure, the dentist thoroughly cleans the surface of the teeth to remove plaque and dirt. This will allow the composite material to adhere evenly. Then, after that, in most cases, we use a cofferdam, which is a special rubber cracker. This sheet is placed to protect the gums and oral cavity so that the teeth remain clean and dry during treatment. The cofferdam prevents saliva and other liquids from entering the treatment surface, thus ensuring proper bonding of the composite material.

Step 4: Minimally Invasive Preparation (This step is not necessary in most cases!)

During the preparation, the surface of the affected teeth is lightly sanded - just enough so that the composite material adheres optimally. This minimal grinding helps to preserve the natural structure of the teeth and gently prepares the surface for applying the material.

Step 5: Etching

As part of the preparation, the polished surface is treated with a slightly acidic conditioner, which creates micropores in the tooth enamel. This step ensures that the composite material has maximum adhesion and long-term stability.

Step 6: Forming Direct Shells with Composite

A special glue is applied to the prepared tooth surface, which ensures a stable fixation of the composite material. After that, a template prepared according to the digital smile design is applied to the teeth, which will guide the exact shaping of the composite material. The composite material is applied to the tooth surface in layers, while the template ensures that each layer fits precisely. Each layer is hardened with a special light source before applying the next layer.

Step 7: Groove Surfaces Forming and Polishing

After the last layer of composite has also been hardened, the dentist uses special tools to form the natural grooves and surface of the tooth. With this step, we ensure that the final result faithfully mimics the texture and appearance of natural teeth. Finally, the surface is thoroughly polished to make it smooth and shiny, thus ensuring a brilliantly shiny and aesthetic appearance, as well as long-term durability.

The latest innovation in aesthetic dentistry offers a fast, gentle and durable solution for anyone who wants to give a new color and shape to their smile. Thanks to an intelligent design and construction process, direct shell technology achieves a natural and aesthetic smile with minimal invasiveness.
